Taking the “Social” Out of Social Intranets
The Walled-Garden Approach to Building a Better Intranet
Many companies have launched social intranets in hopes of achieving a long list of ambitious business goals, from increasing knowledge sharing to facilitating collaboration to fostering greater innovation. While these outcomes are all worthwhile, it’s not clear that a social-enabled intranet is the optimum channel for achieving them.
In this presentation, we’ll challenge some of the unspoken assumptions behind the rise of social intranets and look at an alternative approach that both harnesses the best capabilities of new intranet technologies while intentionally suppressing certain features. We’ll examine the intranet’s place in the communication ecosystem and why it’s more suited to curation than crowd sourcing.
