Meet Our Speaker

Terry Cerisoles

Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, American Cancer Society

Terry Cerisoles, senior vice president of corporate communications, leads the Global Headquarters corporate communications department to develop and implement all communications strategies, channels, and programs for the American Cancer Society. She sits on the executive senior leadership team where she serves as a strategic advisor.

Under her leadership, the corporate communications department was honored with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Gold Quill award, the most prestigious of communication awards. The team was also recognized with four Golden Flame awards from the Atlanta chapter of IABC. These awards recognize thoughtful execution of strategic communication plans, data driven decisions, and high-caliber communicators.

Terry joined the Society in 2015 as vice president of internal communications. In that role, she led the internal communications team in engaging over 5000 staff and more than two million volunteers in their work to deliver on our mission. She also provided overarching direction for all Society communications channels including Society Talk, Society TV, Society Source, Society eNews, Yammer, and live and virtual broadcast events.

Prior to her work at the American Cancer Society, Terry served as vice president, strategic technology communications for Turner Broadcasting System, and prior to that as vice president, marketing and communications, where she was responsible for strategic communication for Turner’s 16 technology divisions. She served as advisor to the senior leadership team for all employee initiatives and led the integrated communications strategy for all marketing, internal, and external communications.

Terry is a leader in the premier communications association, IABC, having served on the Board of Directors, two terms as Secretary/Treasurer, and chair of the global certification program. Her work has earned multiple awards including Gold Quill, Silver Quill and the Golden Flames. She was the recipient of the 2017 Rae Hamlin Award. She holds the prestigious Strategic Communications Management Professional (SCMP) certification.

Terry graduated cum laude from the University of Memphis and conducted postgraduate work in media at The New School, New York University.

Joanna W. Irwin

Global Chief Marketing Officer, Randstad

Joanna Irwin joined Randstad, a global leader in the HR services industry, as Global Chief Marketing Officer in October 2017. In this role, Joanna is responsible for leading the company’s marketing function and global marketing strategy.

Prior to joining Randstad, Joanna was Chief Marketing Officer, North America for Invesco. In this role, Joanna oversaw North American marketing efforts for one of the world’s leading global investment management firms.

Prior to joining Invesco in 2007, Joanna was Vice President with Merrill Lynch, where she served in marketing, e-commerce and product leadership roles in Merrill Lynch’s Retirement Group and its predecessors. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 2002, Joanna consulted with global clients including The Home Depot, Delta Air Lines and Arthur Andersen on large-scale website development projects and software implementations for an international digital agency.

Joanna is a cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a BA degree with honors in psychology and a BA degree in radio, television, motion pictures. Joanna is from Atlanta, Georgia where she currently resides with her husband, Ian, and their two children Charlie (13) and Sadie (11). She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. Joanna is an advocate for professional women and serves as a mentor to future women leaders.

Shirley Powell

Senior VP, Communications, Community & Industry Relations, Cox Automotive

Shirley Powell is senior vice president of communications, community and industry relations at Cox Automotive, a global automotive services and software company whose vision is to transform the way the world buys, sells and owns cars. Cox Automotive is a subsidiary of family-owned Cox Enterprises, Inc.

Based in the Cox Automotive corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Powell leads and manages the day-to-day operations of the company’s communications organization, which includes internal and executive communications, public relations, community and industry relations, and reputation and crisis management. She also oversees the company’s event management and creative services teams.

Powell joined Cox Automotive with more than 25 years of strategic communications experience. Previously, she served as the executive vice president and chief communications officer at The Weather Company where she oversaw all internal and external communications, executive communications, corporate brand/reputation, issues management, community relations and social media strategies for all of Weather’s consumer and business-to-business brands.

Prior to The Weather Company, Powell held a variety of senior level corporate communications roles at Turner Broadcasting System, NBC Entertainment and Disney/ABC.

She serves on the board of directors of Project Open Hand in Atlanta and on the board of visitors for Temple University’s School of Media & Communications. Previously, she served on the boards of The Atlanta Women’s Foundation, Leadership Atlanta, Women in Cable & Telecommunications, and Girls Inc.

Powell earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia and presented her with a Lew Klein in the Media Award in 2005, Women in Cable & Telecommunications Atlanta named Powell “Woman of the Year” in 2014.

Todd Wandtke

VP of Customer Communications and Digital Marketing, UPS

Over his 20 year career with UPS, Todd has held a number of management positions within Marketing, Communications, Sales and UPS Consulting. Currently, Todd is the Vice President of Advertising, Customer Communications and Digital Marketing. In this role, Todd is responsible for all UPS customer-centric communications, advertising, sponsorships, direct marketing, UPS’s marketing technology stack and ups.com.

Most recently, Todd played a pivotal leadership role within the Global B-to-C Strategy team, contributing to the development of key strategies for UPS’s future success in this fast growing segment. His team focused on developing solutions to accelerate growth for merchants, improve consumer experiences and optimize profits for UPS.

Todd sits on the Nord Family Foundation Board and is a trustee of the Marketing Science Institute, a learning organization dedicated to bridging the gap between marketing science theory and business practice.

Todd holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Clemson University and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University.
